The first ever nationwide Prescription Drug Take Back event was held on Saturday, September 25, 2010. Multiple locations throughout Upper Bucks County were manned by police officers, members of the Drug Enforcement Administration, board members, staff and volunteers of Upper Bucks Healthy Communities Healthy Youth Coalition. Thousands of pounds of unused, unwanted prescription drugs were turned in to secure deposit centers provided by the DEA to help curb the prescription drug misuse and abuse problem with teens and young adults in the local area.

Lee Rush, Executive Director of justCommunity, Inc. confirmed that the prescription drug take back was a success. According to Rush, the hope and belief of the community is
“that within a year we will have at least one if not more municipal governments in Upper Bucks agree to place a drop-lock box inside the walls of their police department for a 24 hour/7 day a week place to dispose of prescription drugs.”
